I Feel Like I’m A Part Of This Damn Thing!
Writing class prompt “I feel like I’m a part of this damn thing!”
“I feel like I’m a part of this damn thing!” Urian angrily threw a clock at Sindre, “Why did you have to drag me into this mess?! I don’t want anything to do with this idiotic ‘good vs evil’ fight between your friends! What should it matter to me?! They’re the ones that can’t let go of silly grudges! Childish actions of the past that they’re letting rule their lives!”
The young boy continued to throw household objects at Sindre, who promptly evaded them with his impressive speed. He eyed the boy momentarily, feeling remorse for being the cause of why Urian had been attacked so often. At most times by seemingly nothing; things that regular humans couldn’t see.
“If there was some way I could undo it you know that I would in a heartbeat!” Sindre pleaded with the boy. He tried to move closer to console Urian, only to be met with a lamp, narrowly missing his face. “Please stop, Uri!”
“They hurt him, you know..” Urian lowered his head, slowly falling onto his knees. “He’s an annoying little brother, but no one’s allowed to hurt him! What if he had died?! Do you know what that would do to my parents! And I wouldn’t even be able to tell them why! Like they’d believe he had been attacked by imps, or evil spirits!” his voice started to crack from having yelled for so long.
“I won’t let them anywhere near your family again, okay?” Sindre knelt next to Urian and gathered the boy into his arms, hoping to make him feel better.
“How can I believe that?” Urian looked up, his dark violet eyes tearing up, “It happened once, what if they do it again? What if you can’t help in time?” tears started running down his cheeks as he hid his face in Sindre’s shirt.
Sindre placed his hand on Urian’s head and whispered, “Do you really have so little faith in me?”
